Dolly Rebecca Parton
Dolly Rebecca Parton was conceived in
Pittman Center on January 19 1946. She was raised in Sevierville to Avie Lee
Parton (a housewife) and Robert Lee Parton (a tobacco farmer). When she was 12
she was already appearing on Knoxville TV. At 13 she was already recording on a
label of a small size and singing at Grand Ole Opry. After graduation from the
high school in 1964, she relocated to Nashville to launch her country-singing
career. She began to fall in love with Carl Dean, who ran an asphalt-paving business;
they were married on May 30th in 1966, and remain together. In 1967 her singing
caught the interest of Porter Wagoner, who hired her to perform on his program,
The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). The show lasted for seven years. Their duets
went viral, and she appeared with his group on the Grand Ole Opry; she also
sold and toured records. At the point that her hit song "Joshua" was
ranked #1 in 1970, her popularity was a lot more popular than his, and she
began to go out on her own while still recording duets alongside the singer.
She quit him and became a solo artist in 1974. Dolly became a hugely popular
musician and singer. Dolly received many Country Music Association awards (1968
1970, 1970, 1971, 1975, and 1976). This petite (5'0") beauty was a natural
at television In the mid-1970s, she was often appearing on TV specials and talk
programs before she got her own, Dolly (1976). Dolly got her first Grammy award
for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1977 for "Here You Come
Again". Dolly's debut film appearance came in the movie 9-to-5 (1980) In
the film, she earned an Oscar nomination for her song title and Grammy awards 2
and 3. Also, she won Grammy awards 2 and 3 Best Country Song and Best Female
Country Vocal Performance, for the song "Nine to Five." She got more
fame for being in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982), and in Rhinestone
(1984) with the hit song "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly Parton
Enterprises is her media empire that is worth $100 million. In 1986, she
launched Dollywood which is a Tennessee theme park in Pigeon Forge. This was to
commemorate her Smoky Mountain childhood. In the television series Dolly She
was the main character herself. She won another Grammy in 1988, this time for
Best Country Performance Duo/Group , Vocals, for "Trio".
